About the Company

A large, established industrial manufacturing organization in Eastern North Carolina is seeking a Safety Engineer to support one of their key production facilities. This operation runs complex manufacturing processes and places a strong emphasis on employee safety, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement. The site environment includes industrial machinery, chemical processes, and crossfunctional operations requiring a proactive and technically grounded safety leader.

The Safety Engineer will partner closely with site leadership to develop, implement, and sustain effective Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs while ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory and internal standards.

The Safety Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Partnering with site leadership to plan, implement, and coordinate safety programs in compliance with OSHA regulations.
  • Establishing, maintaining, and continuously improving health and safety programs aligned with approved standards and procedures.
  • Serving as the site representative for ISO 45001 and OHSAS 18001 management systems.
  • Performing and maintaining Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) across facilities and operations.
  • Recommending engineering, process, and product safety improvements to reduce employee exposure to chemical, physical, and biological hazards.
  • Inspecting facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify hazards and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Reviewing plans and specifications for new equipment or machinery to verify OSHA compliance prior to installation.
  • Leading or supporting accident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective and preventive action tracking.
  • Compiling, analyzing, and reporting safety performance metrics, incident data, and compliance documentation.
  • Administering required compliance reports to site and corporate leadership.
  • Notifying site management of any health or safety issues requiring reporting to regulatory agencies.
  • Conducting or overseeing industrial hygiene testing, including air quality, noise, temperature, and other exposure evaluations.
  • Supporting and guiding site safety committees and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Developing and delivering mandatory safety training programs for employees and contractors.
  • Maintaining relationships with external emergency responders, including fire departments and rescue organizations.
  • Collaborating with medical professionals to assess occupational health risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Auditing safety performance across departments and advising leadership on improvement opportunities.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned in support of site safety objectives.

The Safety Engineer will have the following qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in an EHS or safety role within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred:

  • Professional safety certification such as CSP or ASP.
  • Experience supporting ISO 45001 or OHSAS 18001 systems.
  • Strong analytical, investigative, and problemsolving skills.
  • Experience delivering safety training and leading safety committees.
  • Familiarity with industrial hygiene monitoring and exposure assessments.
  • Ability to partner effectively with operations, engineering, and leadership teams.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% as needed.
