Senior Process Engineer (M/F/D) - Battery Cell Manufacturing
Our client is one of Germany's most technically ambitious next-generation battery manufacturers, scaling a proven pilot line into full Gigawatt-hour production. Backed by strategic investors and with a clear ramp roadmap, they are building their senior engineering team now.
They have asked us to find a Senior Process Engineer who can own the bridge from lab to full production.
What You'll Own
- End-to-end electrode process ownership - slurry mixing, coating, drying, calendering - from parameter definition through to mass production release
- Cell assembly processes - stacking/winding, electrolyte filling, sealing, and formation cycling protocols
- Scale-up execution - translate pilot-validated processes to high-volume production with minimal yield loss
- Process capability & yield - establish SPC frameworks, drive OEE improvements, lead structured root cause analysis (8D, Ishikawa, FMEA)
- DOE ownership - design and execute experiments to optimise process windows; defend findings with data
- Cross-functional leadership - daily collaboration with R&D, quality, equipment engineering, and supply chain as the technical authority for your process area
- Equipment qualification - specify, FAT, and qualify new production equipment alongside the engineering team
What They're Looking For
Essential:
- Degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrochemistry, or Mechanical Engineering (Master's / Dipl.-Ing. preferred)
- 5+ years of hands-on process engineering in battery cell manufacturing - electrode or cell assembly specifically
- Proven experience scaling a manufacturing process from development/pilot to volume production
- Strong statistical toolkit: DOE, SPC, Cp/Cpk, MSA
- Familiarity with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, or VDA quality frameworks
- Fluent German and English
Highly Valued:
- Experience with NMC, LFP, or silicon-graphite anode chemistries
- Exposure to solid-state or next-generation cell formats
- Background from a cell manufacturer or high-volume battery environment - Duracell, Varta, Northvolt, Cellforce, Samsung SDI, CATL, or comparable
- Formation and aging process optimisation experience
- Knowledge of DIN EN ISO 12100 and ATEX requirements for solvent handling
