Staff Mechanical Engineer

The Staff Engineer will play a key role in supporting projects across multiple manufacturing locations, including both plants and paper mills. This is a hands-on position that involves working closely with leadership, contractors, and plant personnel to ensure successful project execution. The role offers a unique opportunity to contribute directly to the success of the organization while collaborating with a highly skilled and dedicated team.

This position requires frequent travel (up to 60-80%) but does not require relocation. Candidates must have reliable access to air transportation and be comfortable working in a variety of industrial environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Support alignment and installation of new machinery, conduct machine surveys, and assist with troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Maintain detailed records of findings and generate clear, concise reports for internal use.
  • Apply sound engineering judgment to alignment and layout decisions.
  • Assist with project management tasks including planning, budgeting, design, and implementation.
  • Contribute to the development of capital plans and provide actionable engineering recommendations.
  • Create technical drawings, specifications, and instructions to communicate project requirements.
  • Ensure all projects comply with safety and environmental standards; lead hazard reviews and manage on-site safety during implementation.
  • Coordinate with contractors and engineering teams to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations and written reports based on technical analysis.
  • Work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology (other degrees considered with relevant experience).
  • Minimum of 2 years of industrial experience, preferably in the paper or corrugated industry.
  • Background in alignment services, equipment installation, or mechanical construction.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 80% within the continental U.S.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and AutoCAD (or similar software).
  • Ability to work effectively with consulting engineers, utility providers, and local authorities.
