Job Summary

The Category Manager - Med/Surg Product Categories plays a critical role in shaping the sourcing strategy and supplier relationships for a portfolio of medical and surgical products. This individual will lead the full lifecycle of category management-from strategy development and supplier selection to commercialization and ongoing performance oversight. The role requires deep market insight, strong supplier management skills, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally to ensure supply continuity, cost efficiency, and product excellence.

A successful Category Manager is a strategic thinker and proactive problem solver, capable of navigating complex supplier dynamics, driving long-term partnerships, and influencing internal stakeholders. Roles & Responsibilities

Category Strategy & Product Expertise

  • Develop deep knowledge of assigned med/surg categories including product function, specifications, pricing, and competitive landscape.
  • Define and execute sourcing strategies aligned with market trends, supplier capabilities, and risk mitigation.
  • Collaborate with clinical, marketing, and sales teams to ensure optimal product offerings and positioning.

Supplier Selection & Relationship Management

  • Lead supplier selection processes beyond pre-approved lists, focusing on long-term strategic partnerships.
  • Develop and manage RFIs/RFPs, conduct analysis, and present recommendations to leadership.
  • Negotiate and operationalize supply contracts, including new agreements and product changes.
  • Conduct supplier business reviews and lead transparent, solution-focused discussions when performance issues arise.

Performance & Risk Management

  • Track and manage supplier KPIs and category performance metrics.
  • Ensure compliance with contract terms and enforce business controls to reduce risk.
  • Resolve escalated issues from operations, customer service, and sales teams.

Lifecycle & Commercialization Support

  • Support product lifecycle management including launches, transitions, and exits.
  • Develop and maintain category collateral and digital content for ecommerce and ecatalog platforms.
  • Promote products during customer engagements and contribute to go-to-market strategy.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in strategic sourcing, category management, or supply chain (medical/surgical preferred).
  • Proven ability to manage sourcing projects from concept to commercialization.
  • Strong negotiation, supplier management, and analytical skills.
  • Experience building and maintaining long-term supplier relationships.
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Finance, or Business Administration (Engineering or MBA preferred).
  • Excellent communication, cross-functional collaboration, and problem-solving abilities.
