Technical Writer
Overview
Seeking a Technical Writer to create clear, user‑friendly documentation for kitchen appliances and consumer electronics. This role blends technical accuracy with strong usability and storytelling, helping customers confidently use products from day one.
You'll partner closely with product development teams to deliver high‑quality instructional content used by millions of households.
Responsibilities
- Create instructional manuals, quick‑start guides, safety inserts, and compliance documentation
- Translate engineering specifications into clear, intuitive consumer instructions
- Apply usability and accessibility best practices across all materials
- Maintain compliance templates aligned with UL, FCC, and international standards
- Collaborate with Engineering, Product Development, Design, Legal, and Compliance teams
- Guide or partner on illustrations and diagrams to support user understanding
- Review and refine content to improve customer experience
- Manage multiple projects in a fast‑paced, launch‑driven environment
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, Communications, English, or related field
- 3-5+ years of experience writing documentation for consumer electronics or hardware
- Strong understanding of usability, information design, and compliance requirements
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
- Proficiency with tools such as InDesign, Illustrator, FrameMaker, or similar
- Excellent writing, editing, and organizational skills
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting consumer goods, consumer electronics, or cookware products
- Multilingual documentation or translation vendor experience
- UX writing or digital instruction experience
- Familiarity with structured content or information architecture
