VP Distribution
The Vice President of Distribution is responsible for directing and supervising the North American distribution network. The VP will manage and optimize the flow of products from manufacturing and vendor locations to warehouses worldwide, supporting sales and marketing teams in delivering prompt, accurate, and high-quality service.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and manage annual operational budgets for the North American distribution network; contribute to the annual business planning process.
- Set and oversee objectives for internal DCs and 3PL providers, leveraging deep expertise in distribution operations.
- Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing team to achieve strategic goals.
- Monitor daily and weekly performance metrics across the distribution network and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Lead network-wide changes and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide strategic guidance on alternative sourcing and customer service expectations.
- Lead contract negotiations for transportation and logistics services.
- Report on distribution and transportation performance to senior leadership.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations across the DC and 3PL network.
- Stay informed on industry trends and innovations in distribution and logistics.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aligned with ISO, VAWD, or other external standards.
- Foster a culture of open communication, collaboration, and trust.
- Drive the adoption of advanced technologies such as Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), automation, robotics, real-time analytics, and AI.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance productivity, accuracy, inventory control, and service levels.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with IT, logistics, supply chain planning, and sales to align distribution capabilities with business goals.
- Consistently meet or exceed stretch targets that drive bottom-line impact and customer satisfaction.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Distribution/Logistics, or a related field.
- 18+ years of progressive experience in distribution operations.
- 10+ years of leadership experience with a strong track record of success.
- Proven experience managing 3PL providers for warehousing and transportation.
- International distribution experience is a plus.
- Experience managing domestic and international transportation providers.
- Strong financial acumen with the ability to manage budgets and operational plans.
- Skilled in financial controls and translating operational performance into financial outcomes.
- Familiarity with capital request procedures, financial justification, and project management.
