They are a manufacturer and distributor of retail and industrial packaging, corrugated packaging, packaging materials, plastics, metal, wood and glass. This opportunity is ideal for a detail-oriented Packaging Design Engineer or CAD Designer who enjoys turning customer requirements, tool inventories, and manufacturing constraints into innovative, production-ready solutions. The successful candidate will create highly detailed 2D designs that balance functionality, organization, and visual appeal while ensuring products can be manufactured efficiently using available processes and equipment.
The Packaging Design Engineer has these key Responsibilities:
- Develop detailed dimensional, installation, assembly, and manufacturing drawings from initial concept through final release, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and company requirements.
- Design custom tool control systems, tool kits, storage solutions, and toolbox layouts that maximize organization, accessibility, and workflow efficiency.
- Create accurate models and drawings that define tool positioning, fit, retention, and functionality within specialized storage systems.
- Modify and improve existing designs to enhance manufacturability, performance, and adherence to company standards.
- Maintain and update engineering drawings throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring documentation remains current and production-ready.
- Manage drawing revisions in accordance with established engineering change and document control processes.
- Review customer-provided specifications, drawings, and technical documentation to ensure designs meet project requirements.
- Prepare and maintain detailed records, design notes, calculations, and supporting technical documentation for each project.
- Support CAD and Product Data Management (PDM) systems by maintaining databases, files, and design records.
- Identify design or manufacturing challenges and develop practical solutions through testing, analysis, and collaboration.
- Provide technical support during product development and production to ensure successful project execution.
The Packaging Design Engineer should have the following qualifications:
- Associate degree, Bachelor's degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in CAD, Drafting, Mechanical Design, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
- Relevant experience creating detailed engineering drawings, layouts, and manufacturing documentation is strongly preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in 2D CAD design, with the ability to create highly detailed, accurate, and visually appealing product designs from concepts, sketches, and technical specifications.
- Experience designing custom tool organization and control systems, including tool kits, storage solutions, foam inserts, and customer-specific tool management applications.
- Knowledge of engineering drawing standards, drafting practices, and technical documentation procedures.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, BricsCAD, or similar CAD platforms; candidates with comparable experience using other professional CAD software will also be considered.
