Process Safety Engineer
Title: Process Safety Engineer
Location: Cadet, Missouri
Salary: Starting at $100,000 with bonus eligibility
Company Summary
I'm partnered with a privately held, global specialty chemicals company that has been around for nearly 80 years and is known for its strong technical foundation in water treatment, pulp & paper, and industrial process chemistry. They operate in over 90 countries and sit in a unique middle ground-large enough to offer global resources and stability, but still structured so individuals can have real visibility and impact.
The organization is especially well-regarded for its people-first culture and long-term mindset. Because they're privately held, they tend to invest heavily in their sites, technology, and employees rather than focusing on short-term gains. They've also been expanding their capabilities in digital solutions and sustainable chemistry, helping customers reduce water usage and improve operational efficiency across industrial processes.
This opportunity is based at one of their key U.S. manufacturing sites-a multi-product chemical plant supporting water treatment, pulp & paper, and performance chemical applications-where safety, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement are major priorities.
What you'll be doing:
- Leading PSM program implementation and compliance (OSHA 1910.119 and related standards)
- Conducting PHAs, HAZOPs, and LOPA studies to identify and mitigate process risks
- Supporting incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
- Performing risk assessments, including consequence modeling and fire/explosion analysis
- Partnering with operations and engineering teams to embed safety into plant design and modifications
- Delivering process safety training and improving overall safety culture
- Supporting capital projects and auditing PSM systems for effectiveness
What they're looking for:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related field
- 0-5 years of experience in process safety, chemicals, or manufacturing
- Exposure to PSM, RMP, HAZOP, LOPA, or similar methodologies
- Experience with risk modeling tools (PHAST, ALOHA, etc.) is a plus
Why this role stands out:
- Opportunity to make a real impact at a site level with strong visibility to leadership
- Mix of hands-on plant support and strategic safety program development
- Stable, globally established organization with a strong safety and sustainability focus
- Clear path for growth within EHS, engineering, or broader operations
