Role Overview
As a Solution Design Manager, you will be responsible for leading the design and implementation of tailored logistics solutions in response to customer tenders and internal strategic initiatives. This role requires a blend of analytical thinking, project management, and hands-on experience in both manual and automated logistics operations. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Business Development, Operations, Engineering, and IT to ensure seamless solution delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end solution design process for contract logistics tenders, from initial concept through to implementation.
- Analyze customer requirements and develop tailored warehousing and distribution solutions, including layout design, process flows, and resource planning.
- Evaluate and integrate automation technologies (e.g., AMRs, conveyors, WMS/WCS) into solution designs where applicable.
- Prepare detailed cost models, operational assumptions, and implementation timelines.
- Support the implementation phase by coordinating with internal stakeholders and ensuring alignment with the proposed solution.
- Conduct site visits and operational assessments to validate solution feasibility.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and the development of best practices in solution design.
- Stay current with industry trends, automation technologies, and logistics innovations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Logistics, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in solution design or logistics engineering within a contract logistics or 3PL environment.
- Proven experience in designing and implementing both manual and automated logistics solutions.
- Strong analytical and modeling skills (Excel, AutoCAD, or similar tools).
- Familiarity with warehouse automation technologies and systems (e.g., WMS, WCS, robotics).
- Excellent communication and presentation skills in English; German language skills are a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively in a remote, cross-functional environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on large-scale tenders and greenfield implementations.
- Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma or other process improvement methodologies.
- Experience with simulation tools (e.g., AnyLogic, FlexSim) is an advantage.
