Position Summary:
The Category Lead - Energy Purchasing is responsible for developing and executing strategic sourcing strategies for fuel and power procurement across North America and Canada. This includes managing the supply of gas, diesel, and electricity to ensure cost efficiency, security of supply, and alignment with sustainability goals. This individual will collaborate cross-functionally with operations, finance, legal, and sustainability teams, and will manage supplier relationships to drive long-term value.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and execute sourcing strategies for gas, diesel, and electricity procurement to meet operational and financial targets across North America and Canada.
Monitor and analyze energy markets, regulatory developments, and industry trends to identify risks and opportunities.
Negotiate and manage supply agreements, including pricing structures, terms, and performance metrics.
Partner with logistics and operational teams to forecast fuel needs and manage supply continuity.
Lead the supplier selection, onboarding, and evaluation process to ensure performance and compliance.
Collaborate with sustainability teams to support decarbonization initiatives and renewable energy procurement where applicable.
Develop reporting tools and dashboards to track energy spend, usage, and savings opportunities.
Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements at local, regional, and national levels.
Represent the company in external energy forums, associations, and industry discussions.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, Energy Management, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
7+ years of experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, or energy management, ideally within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
In-depth knowledge of energy markets, particularly related to fuel (gas/diesel) and electricity procurement.
Strong negotiation, contract management, and supplier relationship skills.
Excellent analytical, financial modeling, and data interpretation capabilities.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a matrixed and geographically dispersed organization.
Proficient in procurement and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Excel.
Willingness to travel (up to 20%) as required.
