Sr. Buyer
ABOUT THE JOB
A leading aerospace and defense manufacturer is seeking an experienced Senior Buyer to join its growing supply chain team. This position plays a critical role in sourcing and procuring complex components and services that support both production and new product development programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the full procurement cycle, from initial requirements through supplier delivery.
- Develop sourcing strategies, issue competitive bids, and negotiate agreements to achieve cost, quality, and delivery objectives.
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, monitor performance, and mitigate risk.
- Purchase a variety of items including machined parts, electronic components, raw materials, and outsourced manufacturing services.
- Collaborate with engineering and proposal teams to provide accurate cost estimates for new business opportunities.
- Recommend inventory strategies such as Kanban and other lean fulfillment methods.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including government contracting requirements.
- Prepare cost and price analysis to support audit and documentation standards.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Finance, or related field.
- 5-8 years of purchasing experience in a heavy manufacturing or industrial setting, preferably in aerospace and defense.
- Familiarity with FAR/DFARS regulations and government contracting practices.
- Experience with low-volume R&D procurement and small-to-medium production runs.
- Knowledge of ERP systems and lean manufacturing principles.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Willingness to travel occasionally (up to 10%).
