A leading food processing company is seeking a Director of Environmental Health and Safety. In this role you will provide provide professional knowledge and expertise in administrating and supporting all environmental health and safety programs and will ensure compliance with regulatory agency guidelines.
The Director of EHS will have the following responsibilities:
- Ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local legislation and environmental, health, and safety codes.
- Assessing risk potential across the organization and ensuring proper signage, guarding, protection measures, and training are in place.
- Develop internal policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and guidelines.
- Interfacing with all regulatory agencies and internal staff regarding inspections, audits, incident reports, responses, and corrective actions (e.g., OSHA, EPA, USDA, DOT, INS, CDC, etc.).
- Assist with the Process Safety Management Program, including a three-year Compliance Audit, Monthly Meetings, and review of Incident Investigations, MOC, etc.
- Establishing protocols, overseeing and conducting accident investigations, data analysis, and recurrence prevention programs and procedures.
- Manage and track all safety violations and maintain necessary records (OSHA, etc.).
- Participating in and/or directing the Safety Committees (including bi-weekly meetings, safety walks, fire watches, UCRs, etc.).
- Designing safety and compliance training for all employees and ensuring delivery to keep the facility compliant.
- Monitoring all current information on regulations and requirements related to environmental and hazardous waste/materials, including training and monitoring (e.g., NPDES, Air Permit, RCRA, Land Apply, EIQ, HAZWOPER, etc.).
- Directing industrial hygiene, occupational, and general safety programs to ensure a safe environment that complies with safety standards, including Noise Surveys and Air Monitoring.
- Working with others to evaluate new safety equipment and management of necessary PPE.
- Work with company insurance broker for annual audits conducted by the underwriter.
- Work with the Human Resources Team on SMETA -4P audits.
- Overseeing DOT-required programming (e.g., driver certs/recerts, random drug screens, etc.).
- Work with vendors for annual inspections and repairs of alarm and fire suppression systems.
- Responding and assisting in all emergency situations, including assuming Incident Commander as required.
- Produce Quarterly EHS Data for Board Meetings and prepare the previous year's EHS data and goals for the executive team.
- Keeping up-to-date on new safety methods and procedures to applicable codes and regulations or maintaining the required level of certification.
- Can handle tough situations with ease, influence, and authority.
- Be a skilled safety expert who can demonstrate experience in the areas of accountability above.
- Participate in the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC).
The ideal Director of EHS will have the following skillset:
- Bachelors Degree in as Engineering, Environmental Science, or Health and Safety
- 10 years of experience / 8 years in a management position
- Strong organizational skills
- A certified Safety Professional is preffered
- knowledgeable on Tier II, Form R, EIQ, HAZWASTE Reporting, DMR, RMP
