Director of Instrumentation & Controls
Position Overview:
We are seeking a strategic and technically adept Director of Instrumentation & Controls to lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of advanced control systems across a large-scale industrial operation. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of instrumentation and control systems, with a strong emphasis on DeltaV and Rockwell Automation platforms. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in process automation, team leadership, and regulatory compliance within a high-hazard, process-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development, integration, and optimization of DeltaV and Rockwell control systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations.
- Manage a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technicians responsible for instrumentation, controls, and automation.
- Oversee the lifecycle of control systems, including design, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and upgrades.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to identify opportunities for process improvements and automation enhancements.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Develop and manage budgets, project timelines, and vendor relationships related to instrumentation and controls.
- Drive standardization of control system architecture and documentation across facilities.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in industrial instrumentation and controls, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Extensive hands-on experience with DeltaV DCS and Rockwell PLC systems.
- Strong knowledge of process control strategies, instrumentation technologies, and industrial communication protocols.
- Proven track record of managing complex automation projects in a hazardous or regulated environment.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in the environmental services, chemical, or petrochemical industries.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices for industrial control systems.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license or relevant certifications (e.g., ISA CAP) is a plus.
