Automation Technician

Position Overview:
An opportunity is available for an experienced Automation Technician to support automation systems at a manufacturing facility. This role involves programming, troubleshooting, and upgrading PLC and HMI systems, as well as supporting the maintenance and installation of control devices, instrumentation, and electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC and HMI programs in accordance with established standards.
  • Mentor and assist instrumentation technicians in the repair, maintenance, and installation of control systems to ensure uninterrupted production.
  • Execute automation and controls-related tasks for equipment, instrumentation, HMIs, and PLCs to enhance process efficiency.
  • Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to develop preventive maintenance programs.
  • Evaluate machinery and equipment to ensure compliance with operational standards.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and actively participate in safety initiatives.
  • Test equipment for safety, performance, and efficiency using appropriate tools and devices.
  • Create and update electrical and controls layouts using CAD or similar software.
  • Commission and tune variable frequency drives, vector drives, and servo drives, integrating them into PLC and HMI systems.
  • Participate in training on new systems and update Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Source and procure automation and instrumentation components, especially for obsolete or discontinued items.
  • Work overtime as needed to support operations.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree from a technical school or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of relevant experience or a combination of education and hands-on training.
