Role Overview

The Director of Operations will oversee a portfolio of retail stores within a designated geographic region. This role is responsible for operational excellence, financial performance, compliance, and team leadership. The ideal candidate is a data‑driven operator who thrives in a fast‑paced environment and can drive consistent execution at scale.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Lead day‑to‑day retail operations across a multi‑store region, ensuring consistent execution of merchandising, supply chain coordination, customer service, and labor productivity.
  • Implement operational standards, SOPs, and best practices to improve store efficiency and profitability.
  • Partner with cross‑functional teams (Merchandising, HR, Finance, Supply Chain) to ensure alignment between corporate initiatives and store‑level execution.

People Management

  • Coach, develop, and mentor District Managers and store leadership teams to foster accountability, engagement, and high performance.
  • Recruit and develop operational talent to support succession planning and future growth.

Financial & Performance Accountability

  • Own regional P&L results, including sales performance, margin improvement, expense control, and shrink reduction.
  • Use data dashboards and KPIs to monitor store performance, identify gaps, and deploy corrective action plans.

Customer Experience

  • Ensure stores deliver a consistent, high‑quality customer experience across all operational touchpoints.
  • Champion safety, cleanliness, and operational readiness standards.

Compliance & Risk

  • Ensure regulatory and food safety compliance across all locations.
  • Conduct regular audits, risk assessments, and follow‑through on corrective actions.

Strategic Projects & Continuous Improvement

  • Support and lead enterprise initiatives such as technology rollouts, supply chain enhancements, format modernization, and e‑commerce expansions.
  • Identify and drive opportunities to streamline operational workflows and increase efficiency.

Qualifications

Required

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in operations leadership, including multi‑unit oversight.
  • Demonstrated success in leading large teams and improving operational metrics at scale.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing P&L statements and KPIs.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Preferred

  • Experience working in a high‑volume supermarket, grocery, or food retail environment.
  • Background in omnichannel operations and/or supply chain coordination.
  • Lean/Six Sigma or continuous improvement training.
