EHS Manager
Role Overview
The position is for a Plant Safety Manager/Engineer within a heavy manufacturing environment. The role focuses on developing and maintaining world-class Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) programs, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and fostering a strong safety culture across operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety Program Development: Design, implement, and manage comprehensive safety policies aligned with industry best practices and legal requirements.
- Audits & Risk Assessments: Conduct regular safety audits and hazard assessments; implement corrective actions to mitigate risks.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal safety regulations; proactively update policies as standards evolve.
- Training & Awareness:
- Develop and deliver onboarding and ongoing safety training programs.
- Include specialized topics such as human factors and emergency response.
- Promote safety awareness through communication campaigns, meetings, and visual materials.
- Incident Investigation:
- Lead investigations into accidents, near misses, and safety incidents.
- Document findings, implement corrective measures, and track trends for continuous improvement.
- Emergency Preparedness:
- Maintain emergency response plans (evacuation, first aid, coordination with external agencies).
- Conduct regular drills to ensure readiness.
- Safety Equipment Management:
- Evaluate, select, and implement appropriate PPE and safety systems.
- Ensure proper maintenance and employee training on equipment usage.
- Performance Monitoring:
- Track and analyze safety metrics and KPIs.
- Prepare monthly reports for senior leadership on safety performance and initiatives.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Act as liaison between management, employees, and external safety agencies.
- Report directly to the Corporate EHS Director.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years in industrial safety management with proven success in implementing effective safety programs.
- Technical Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of health and safety tools, techniques, and compliance standards.
- Familiarity with relevant legislation, codes of practice, and operating procedures.
- Certifications: CSP, CIH, or similar credentials preferred.
- Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to influence and engage employees at all levels.
- Proficiency in safety management software and Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint).
Work Environment
- Primarily office-based with occasional visits to manufacturing areas.
- Exposure to shop conditions including noise, fumes, and vapors (controlled to OSHA standards).
- Physical requirements include walking, standing, bending, climbing stairs, and occasional lifting.
