Equipment Packaging Engineer
DSJ Global is currently partnered with a rapidly growing pharmaceutical manufacturer who is looking to add on an experienced Equipment Packaging Engineer to support the design, implementation, qualification, and optimization of automated packaging equipment at their Greenville, SC facility. This role is responsible for improving equipment reliability, throughput, and operational performance while ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory standards. The Equipment Engineer will lead equipment-related projects from specification through commissioning and validation, working closely with cross-functional teams and external vendors. This position offers the opportunity to drive continuous improvement initiatives and support advanced packaging technologies.
Responsibilities
- Lead the specification, design, and procurement of automated packaging equipment and packaging line systems.
- Develop user requirements, equipment specifications, and technical documentation for new equipment projects.
- Evaluate equipment designs for reliability, manufacturability, and integration with existing operations.
- Manage equipment installation, commissioning, factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), and qualification activities.
- Coordinate with equipment vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders throughout project execution.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, automation, and control system issues during startup and routine operation.
- Analyze packaging line performance and implement solutions to improve efficiency, quality, and throughput.
- Conduct root cause investigations and implement sustainable corrective and preventive actions.
- Develop and maintain validation protocols, SOPs, maintenance plans, technical drawings, and change control documentation.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, quality, safety, and operational requirements.
- Support audits, inspections, and technical reviews related to packaging equipment and manufacturing operations.
- Train operators, maintenance personnel, and other stakeholders on equipment operation and best practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Packaging Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline.
- 5+ years of experience working with packaging equipment in a regulated manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of automated packaging machinery, mechanical systems, controls, and equipment integration.
- Hands-on experience with equipment commissioning, FAT/SAT activities, and qualification protocols (IQ/OQ/PQ).
- Familiarity with PLCs, HMIs, robotics, serialization, vision systems, and automated material handling technologies.
- Proven project management, problem-solving, and cross-functional communication skills.
