Position Overview

The Human Resources Manager is a key strategic and operational leader responsible for overseeing all HR functions within a chemical manufacturing facility. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations; supports a safe, productive, and engaged workforce; and serves as a trusted partner to both plant leadership and front‑line employees. A strong background in union environments and HR process administration is essential.


Key Responsibilities

Labor Relations & Union Management

  • Serve as the primary HR liaison for union‑related matters within the facility.
  • Interpret, administer, and ensure compliance with Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs).
  • Partner with leadership during contract negotiation cycles, assisting with strategy development, data preparation, and labor‑relations planning.
  • Support grievance administration, investigations, and resolution processes, ensuring timely and fair outcomes.
  • Maintain productive, collaborative relationships with union representatives to promote a stable and engaged workforce.

HR Operations & Process Administration

  • Execute and enhance core HR processes, including performance management, compensation cycles, leave management, benefits coordination, employee onboarding, and HRIS accuracy.
  • Oversee hourly and salaried recruitment, collaborating with site leadership to forecast staffing needs and maintain workforce stability.
  • Develop and implement HR policies, ensuring plant-wide communication and alignment with corporate HR standards.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements across HR‑related documentation, audits, and reporting, including OSHA‑related employee programs where applicable.

Employee & Leadership Development

  • Coach, influence, and guide managers on employee relations, performance improvement, talent development, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Drive a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and strong communication across all levels of the workforce.
  • Support training initiatives around safety, compliance, leadership development, and employee engagement.

Change Leadership & Organizational Impact

  • Lead and influence change initiatives within the plant, including policy updates, cultural initiatives, organizational restructures, and process improvements.
  • Provide real examples of business improvements or employee‑focused outcomes from prior experience, demonstrating a track record of positive, measurable impact.
  • Partner with cross‑functional teams-including EHS, Operations, and Finance-to align people strategies with business objectives.

Qualifications

Required

  • 5-7+ years of HR Generalist experience, preferably within manufacturing or industrial environments.
  • Experience working in a union environment, including hands‑on CBA interpretation and support of contract negotiation processes.
  • Demonstrated leadership and influence skills, with a proven ability to build trust, coach managers, and guide employees through complex issues.
  • Strong knowledge of HR best practices, including compliance, employee relations, and performance management.
  • Ability to share specific, measurable examples of positive change or operational improvement driven in previous HR roles.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem‑solving skills.
