Senior Material Planner

A leading organization in the heavy manufacturing space is seeking a Senior Material Planner to support a high-volume production environment. This role is highly tactical and will play a critical part in ensuring material availability, optimizing inventory levels, and preventing production disruptions across the operation.
This individual will also manage and develop a small team of planners supporting an OEM-focused business unit.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and schedule material flow from suppliers to support production requirements
- Monitor inventory levels, safety stock, and replenishment strategies to meet service and cost targets
- Proactively identify material shortages, drive root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions
- Manage supplier performance related to delivery, quality, and responsiveness; escalate issues as needed
- Coordinate closely with procurement, production planning, and quality teams to resolve supply challenges
- Support supplier onboarding and maintain strong communication on forecasts and demand signals
- Maintain accurate planning parameters, including lead times, ABC classifications, and PFEP inputs
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction, inventory optimization, and cash flow
- Evaluate and implement replenishment strategies such as Kanban and vendor-managed inventory (VMI)
- Provide leadership and direction to a team of 3-5 planners
Additional Responsibilities:
- Expedite critical materials as needed to support production continuity
- Resolve invoicing discrepancies in collaboration with suppliers and finance
- Analyze capacity and material availability to support customer order commitments
- Ensure a safe and organized work environment
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required
- 5+ years of material planning and/or buying experience within a manufacturing environment
- Prior experience in heavy manufacturing or industrial environments preferred
- APICS CPIM (or equivalent) certification is a plus
Key Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of supplier scheduling and production planning processes
- Experience working with ERP systems and standard planning tools
- Understanding of supplier capabilities and manufacturing processes
- Ability to lead, mentor, and develop team members
- Experience with both flow/rate-based and job shop manufacturing environments
