Plant & Cost Accounting Manager
The Cost & Plant Accounting Manager leads cost and plant accounting across manufacturing operations, driving a consistent and forward‑looking cost accounting framework enterprise‑wide. This role provides strategic leadership to cost and plant accounting teams, ensuring alignment, strong performance, and standardized practices across all sites. The position owns the governance and execution of cost accounting methodologies, delivering accurate financial reporting, disciplined cost control, and actionable insights. As a key financial partner to the Controller, plant leadership, and operations, this role supports informed decision‑making, operational efficiency, and long‑term value creation.
Responsibilities Include:
- Own the enterprise standard costing process within the annual budgeting cycle by defining costing approaches, timelines, and required inputs across all manufacturing locations. Collaborate closely with operations, plant leaders, and accounting teams to develop, review, and confirm standard costs. Ensure standards align to budgeted plant spend, that detailed reconciliations are completed, and that cost variances are fully reviewed and clearly communicated to plant and executive leadership. Act as the organization's primary authority on standard costing principles and application.
- Lead and develop cost accounting and plant accounting teams, including cost accountants, senior cost accountants, and plant accounting staff. Establish clear accountability by defining roles, responsibilities, and interfaces between plant‑based and centralized accounting resources. Set expectations, assess performance, provide coaching and development, and reinforce a culture focused on teamwork, ownership, and continuous improvement. Maintain team proficiency in evolving cost accounting practices, tools, and analytical methods.
- Direct budgeting and forecasting activities to ensure accurate execution and alignment with approved financial plans. Track performance against targets, analyze variances, and partner with stakeholders to drive corrective actions and deliver financial commitments.
- Oversee plant‑level forecasting, month‑end close, and financial reporting across all manufacturing sites. Ensure commodity and raw material cost analysis is reliable, forward‑looking, and aligned with enterprise objectives. Review savings calculations and convert financial results into clear recommendations that support cost reduction, operational improvement, and risk management throughout the year.
- Manage cost development for new products across manufacturing operations by evaluating material, packaging, labor, overhead, and related cost assumptions. Compare projected versus actual costs, identify trends, and recommend controls or adjustments to support profitable product introductions and sustainable cost performance over time.
- Drive enterprise standardization of cost and plant accounting processes across all manufacturing locations. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, data integrity, and reporting effectiveness while leading adoption of best practices, system enhancements, and appropriate automation.
Preferred Requirements:
- 8+ years of experience relevant experience (must have manufacturing experience)
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related
- Experience leading or overseeing teams
- ERP systems experience
