Principal Electrical Engineer

This is an opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer to take full ownership of board-level hardware development from concept through production. The role focuses on designing and architecting ruggedized embedded computing solutions that operate in demanding aerospace, defense, and high-reliability environments.

The Principal Electrical Engineer will lead the development of advanced digital and mixed-signal circuit boards supporting secure processing, FPGA-based systems, high-speed networking, data storage, and mission-critical computing applications. This individual will play a key role in shaping technical strategy, establishing engineering standards, and driving innovation across complex hardware programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and verification of complex board-level hardware from initial architecture through production release.
  • Architect advanced embedded hardware solutions involving processors, FPGAs, networking, storage, high-speed interfaces, and secure computing technologies.
  • Design and implement high-speed digital systems utilizing technologies such as Ethernet, PCIe, DDR memory, and advanced interconnect architectures.
  • Establish engineering best practices, design standards, and verification methodologies to improve product quality and reliability.
  • Provide technical leadership for proposals, including system architecture, technical risk assessment, cost estimates, schedules, and basis of estimate (BOE) development.
  • Drive design-for-manufacturing (DFM), design-for-assembly (DFA), and design-for-test (DFT) initiatives while supporting manufacturing and production activities.
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to technical decision-making across multidisciplinary teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • 6+ years of experience designing and developing board-level hardware through the complete product lifecycle.
  • Strong experience with embedded digital systems, high-speed interfaces, memory architectures, and complex electronic designs.
  • Solid understanding of signal integrity principles and high-speed design techniques.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.

Preferred Experience

Digital & High-Speed Hardware

  • Modern processor architectures and embedded computing platforms.
  • Advanced FPGA-based hardware design and integration.
  • High-speed interfaces such as Ethernet, PCIe, and DDR memory technologies.
  • Networking and communications hardware development.

Aerospace, Defense & Rugged Electronics

  • VPX/VITA, COM Express, System-on-Module (SoM), or related architectures.
  • Development of electronics for ruggedized, harsh-environment applications.
  • Secure processing, anti-tamper, or electronic warfare-related hardware.
  • Radiation-tolerant or space-grade electronics design.
