Senior Automation OT Engineer
The Automation Engineer (OT) will play a key role in supporting and advancing automation and Operational Technology systems within a highly regulated manufacturing environment. This position combines technical ownership with hands-on troubleshooting and project support across manufacturing, utilities, quality control, and laboratory operations.
The role works with a range of platforms, including EMS, BAS, PCS, MES/EBR, and LIMS, and supports systems throughout their full lifecycle. Additional responsibilities include supporting capital and operational projects, system validation, cybersecurity, data integrity, and ongoing regulatory readiness in accordance with GMP, 21 CFR Part 11, and Annex 11.
Responsibilities Include:
- Maintain and support OT/automation platforms, including DCS, PLC, PCS, EMS, BAS, MES/EBR, LIMS, and batch systems.
- Configure and troubleshoot DCS and PLC technologies, including DeltaV, Siemens, and Allen-Bradley.
- Resolve automation issues involving hardware, controls, system performance, and network connectivity.
- Support OT infrastructure, including virtual servers, storage, endpoints, networks, IP/VLAN configurations, and system architecture.
- Ensure systems meet GMP, GAMP, 21 CFR Part 11, Annex 11, and internal quality requirements.
- Support OT cybersecurity, including endpoint security, network segmentation, remote access, asset management, and disaster recovery.
- Perform system administration, including backups, patching, upgrades, access management, and recovery activities.
- Serve as an Automation/OT technical resource during audits and regulatory inspections.
- Support deviations, CAPAs, root-cause investigations, and other quality activities involving OT systems.
- Partner with Engineering, IT, and vendors on installations, upgrades, system lifecycle activities, and technical assessments.
- Provide automation/OT support for CAPEX and OPEX projects, including new systems and equipment upgrades.
- Maintain OT asset records and assist with data integrity and disaster recovery assessments.
- Develop and update technical documentation, including SOPs, specifications, and work instructions.
- Provide technical guidance and training to operations, maintenance, and engineering teams.
- Participate in on-call support and travel as needed.
Ideal Skillset:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline preferred, with 5+ years of OT/automation experience in regulated manufacturing or laboratory environments.
- Experience with automation platforms such as DeltaV, Rockwell FactoryTalk, Siemens, Allen-Bradley, and MODA-ES.
- Strong knowledge of SCADA, PLC, HMI, DCS, MES/EBR, EMS, BAS, and industrial communication protocols.
- Experience leading automation and controls projects from design and procurement through validation and operational handoff.
- Knowledge of GMP, GAMP, 21 CFR Part 11, Annex 11, IEC 62443, and NIST standards.
- Ability to develop URS documents, technical specifications, and control drawings while supporting CQV activities.
- Working knowledge of OT networks, VLANs, firewalls, Cisco switching, and virtualized environments; relevant technical certifications are a plus.
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
