Overview
Leads engineering improvements and capital projects that support manufacturing operations across the facility. This role strengthens plant performance by improving processes, upgrading equipment, and ensuring reliable, safe, and efficient operation of production systems. Works closely with Operations, Quality, Facilities, and Maintenance to assess current processes, solve complex technical issues, drive continuous improvement, and support long‑term strategic manufacturing goals. Contributes expertise in process design, project management, troubleshooting, and system commissioning to support both daily operations and major modernization initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute engineering projects involving process systems such as cleaning, coating, electroplating, vacuum systems, waste treatment, and automation; support both new installations and improvements to existing manufacturing equipment.
- Develop technical documentation including design criteria, feasibility assessments, process calculations, P&IDs, equipment specifications, material qualifications, and CAD layouts to guide engineering and construction activities.
- Analyze system performance, identify root causes of failures or inefficiencies, define process limits, and implement corrective actions to maintain quality and throughput standards.
- Lead capital project activities including cost estimating, scheduling, procurement documentation, drawing reviews, and field verification of layouts throughout design and construction.
- Oversee construction, commissioning, and startup of manufacturing systems; establish preventative and predictive maintenance processes and coordinate closely with Maintenance and Production teams.
- Conduct on‑site surveys, translate plant layouts into updated CAD drawings, and support rearrangements or expansions of manufacturing areas.
- Collaborate with external contractors, equipment suppliers, and internal engineering groups to ensure safe, efficient, and timely project execution.
- Apply structured problem‑solving methods (DMAIC, RCA, 5‑Why, A3, etc.) to maintain quality and improve system reliability.
Requirements:
- 10+ years in Quality, Operations, Process, Maintenance, or Manufacturing Engineering.
- Bachelor's degree in Materials, Chemical, Industrial, or related Engineering.
- Experience leading capital projects over $1M.
- Skilled in process documentation (P&IDs, specs, calculations) and interpreting controls/wiring diagrams.
- Knowledge of automation, controls, material handling, and equipment commissioning.
- Strong communication and problem‑solving skills (DMAIC, RCA, 5‑Why, etc.).
- Familiarity with ISO‑9001 and basic project accounting.
- Proficient in MS Office; preferred experience with statistical tools and industry standards.
Physical/Work Environment:
Mix of office and plant‑floor work; includes walking, observing equipment, and light physical activity.
