Senior Global Freight & Logistics Specialist - Construction
Position Summary
The Senior Freight & Logistics Specialist is responsible for leading and executing transportation strategies for project-related cargo across the organization. This role ensures efficient coordination of domestic and international shipments, compliance with global trade regulations, and effective communication among internal and external stakeholders. The specialist will deliver high-quality logistics support for a wide range of cargo types, including standard freight and oversized loads.
Key Responsibilities
- Transportation Coordination: Manage multi-modal transportation bookings and shipments, including export, import, and domestic logistics, while maintaining clear communication with all stakeholders.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with suppliers, freight forwarders, and customs brokers to ensure smooth cross-border transportation.
- Logistics Strategy & Support: Provide insights into shipping costs and logistics performance to support management initiatives.
- Supplier Management: Source, evaluate, negotiate, and maintain master agreements with transportation and logistics service providers.
- Project Planning: Support project proposals by conducting transportation studies and securing budgetary pricing for anticipated logistics needs.
- Logistics Planning: Develop and implement project-specific transportation plans that align with schedules and optimize cost-efficiency.
- Execution Oversight: Coordinate scheduled transportation activities with selected service providers across truck, rail, and water modes, both domestically and internationally.
- Shipment Monitoring: Ensure timely and complete delivery of freight through proactive tracking and follow-up.
- Communication: Maintain strong communication with shippers, carriers, and consignees to ensure alignment and issue resolution.
- Process Improvement: Recommend and implement enhancements to logistics systems and processes.
- Reporting & Analysis: Generate and distribute logistics reports; analyze carrier performance to drive cost savings and service improvements.
- Issue Resolution: Identify and resolve logistics-related issues promptly and effectively.
- Billing & Audits: Address billing inquiries, approve purchase releases, and conduct routine audits of freight invoices.
- Team Leadership: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff members.
- Quality & Compliance: Ensure adherence to QA/QC processes and compliance with company and site safety policies.
- Additional Duties: Perform other responsibilities as assigned and comply with all company policies and standards.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain, business, logistics, or related field with 7+ years of experience in transportation and logistics management, or
- Associate degree with 8+ years of relevant experience, or
- High school diploma/GED with 11+ years of relevant experience.
Industry Experience:
- Prior experience managing transportation of engineered or fabricated equipment for heavy industrial projects (e.g., oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, electrical transmission).
Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of transportation contracts and negotiation of rates and services.
- Expertise in import/export compliance and international logistics.
- Established industry relationships and contacts.
- Ability to serve as a liaison between project teams, suppliers, and logistics providers.
- Familiarity with CTL, HazMat, IATA, IMDG, and DOT regulations.
- Proficiency in Incoterms and global trade practices.
- Excellent multitasking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication and organizational abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access).
- Must meet company driving requirements.
