Senior Packaging Engineer
Summary
In this role, you'll oversee the full packaging lifecycle-from concept to commercialization-across a portfolio of global brands. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners to deliver innovative, cost-effective, and sustainable packaging solutions that delight consumers and meet business goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop packaging for new products, promotions, and sustainability initiatives.
- Create and manage detailed packaging specifications, including technical drawings and pallet patterns.
- Analyze data and present technical reports to support business decisions.
- Lead press checks, commissioning plans, and factory acceptance tests.
- Manage packaging trials and serve as the technical lead for packaging projects.
- Collaborate with suppliers to optimize materials and drive cost and efficiency improvements.
- Evaluate new packaging technologies and lead cross-functional implementation projects.
- Provide technical support to manufacturing sites and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Troubleshoot packaging issues across production, logistics, and consumer use.
- Support supplier audits and contribute to global packaging strategy.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Packaging Engineering, or related field.
- 5-10 years of experience in packaging engineering.
- Expertise in corrugated, paperboard, flexible films, and rigid packaging.
- Familiarity with automated packaging equipment (e.g., VFFS, HFFS, flow wrapping).
- Ability to translate concepts into technical die lines and specifications.
- Experience with FDA food-contact packaging regulations (21 CFR).
- Knowledge of artwork processes and printing methods (flexographic, rotogravure, digital, offset).
- Willingness to travel 5-10% for supplier visits and project support.
