Senior Product Design Engineer
Overview
A leading manufacturer of precision-engineered products for commercial and defense applications is seeking a Senior Product Design Engineer to lead new product development efforts from concept through production. This role will drive design, prototyping, testing, validation, and technical documentation while collaborating across engineering, manufacturing, quality, sales, and product management teams.
The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical design expertise with hands-on product development experience and a passion for bringing innovative products to market.
What You'll Do
- Lead the design and development of new products and accessories from concept through production.
- Oversee prototype fabrication, testing, and design refinement activities.
- Conduct engineering analyses and simulations to improve performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Develop 3D models, drawings, specifications, and technical documentation using PTC Creo.
- Perform and document Design FMEAs for new product introductions.
- Create comprehensive Technical Data Packages including manufacturing, assembly, and maintenance documentation.
- Author professional test reports and technical documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
- Conduct patent research and competitive product analysis.
- Support patent development and innovation initiatives.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, sourcing, marketing, and sales teams throughout development efforts.
- Drive continuous improvement of products, processes, and verification methods.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute technical leadership across the organization.
What You'll Bring
- BS in Engineering or equivalent technical experience.
- 8+ years of engineering experience supporting product design, manufacturing, operations, or quality.
- Strong product development experience from concept through production.
- Expertise in metal fabrication, tooling, castings, mechanics, and materials science.
- Experience with GD&T and engineering drawing development.
- Proficiency with PTC Creo.
- Experience with Windchill preferred.
- Design experience involving MIM, injection molding, castings, forgings, and sheet metal.
- Experience supporting products for commercial and government customers.
- Familiarity with metrology equipment including calipers, comparators, and height gauges.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and project leadership skills.
