A leading shipbuilding and repair company is seeking a Shipfitter Supervisor to lead and manage shipfitting crews in the fabrication and assembly of structural components, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency across diverse marine vessel repair projects.
The Shipfitter Supervisor will have the following responsibilities:
- Supervise shipfitting crews, assign tasks, and ensure timely, high-quality completion of work.
- Lead safety meetings and enforce company safety policies and practices.
- Collaborate with project managers to plan staffing, materials, tools, and schedules.
- Ensure crews have the necessary equipment, drawings, and procedures to perform their jobs effectively.
- Conduct inspections to verify work meets specifications and correct deficiencies as needed.
- Review and approve timecards, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
- Participate in daily production meetings and coordinate with other departments.
- Support estimating efforts and contribute to project planning.
- Foster a positive team environment and mentor apprentices and junior staff.
- Uphold company policies and lead by example in safety, quality, and performance.
The ideal Shipfitter Supervisor candidate will have the following skillset:
- 5-10 years of supervisory experience in marine construction, with journeyman-level trade expertise.
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree plus 2 years of related experience, or associate degree plus 4 years of directly relevant experience.
- Strong proficiency in Outlook, Excel, and Microsoft Project.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning through education, seminars, or industry literature.
- Solid understanding of ship repair processes, including project planning, scheduling, material requirements, and resource management.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, and coordinate teams effectively while resolving conflicts.
- Hands-on experience as a shipfitter or in a related fabrication trade.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to read and interpret project schedules and technical documentation.
- Familiarity with shipboard systems and marine equipment.
