About the Role
As the Trade Compliance Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with international trade regulations across the EMEA region. Reporting to the Global Head of Trade Compliance (US), you will act as a senior individual contributor, providing expert guidance on customs, export controls, and trade compliance processes.
This position offers the opportunity to shape compliance strategies, implement robust processes, and work closely with global stakeholders to maintain operational excellence.
The Trade Compliance Manager will be responsible for:
- Ensure compliance with all applicable international trade laws, regulations, and internal company policies.
- Manage product classification (HTS, ECCN) and maintain accurate import/export documentation for all shipments.
- Oversee customs clearance processes, ensuring timely and compliant movement of goods across borders.
- Develop and implement trade compliance programs, policies, and procedures to mitigate risk and ensure regulatory adherence.
- Conduct internal audits and risk assessments, identifying gaps and implementing corrective actions.
- Provide training and guidance to internal teams on trade compliance requirements and best practices.
- Collaborate with global trade compliance teams to align regional practices with global standards and corporate objectives.
- Monitor regulatory changes (EU, German, and international) and assess their impact on business operations, advising leadership on necessary adjustments.
- Support investigations and corrective actions related to trade compliance issues, including root cause analysis and preventive measures.
- Manage relationships with customs authorities, brokers, and external partners to ensure smooth operations and compliance.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging technology and automation to enhance compliance processes.
- Act as a subject matter expert for export controls, sanctions, and restricted party screening.
The Trade Compliance Manager should have the following qualifications:
- 8-10 years of experience in trade compliance, preferably in a multinational environment.
- Strong knowledge of EU and German trade regulations, customs procedures, and export controls.
- Expertise in classification systems and customs documentation.
- Familiarity with SAP GTS or similar trade compliance systems is a plus.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage complex compliance issues.
- Fluent in German and English
