As part of its continued growth in Switzerland, the company is seeking an experienced Air Operations Manager to lead its air freight operations team and drive service performance, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

The Role

The Air Operations Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of air import and export operations, ensuring shipments are executed efficiently, compliantly, and profitably. Leading a team of air freight professionals, you will play a key role in maintaining service excellence, developing talent, and supporting business growth within a fast-paced international forwarding environment.

Key Responsibilities

Operations Management

Lead and manage daily air import and export freight forwarding operations.
Ensure the timely and accurate movement of shipments in accordance with customer requirements and internal service standards.
Monitor operational performance, productivity, and profitability across all air freight activities.
Act as the primary escalation point for operational and service-related issues.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and service quality.

Team Leadership

Manage, mentor, and develop a team of air freight operators and supervisors.
Conduct performance reviews and support career development plans.
Foster a culture focused on teamwork, accountability, customer service, and operational excellence.
Ensure resource planning aligns with operational demand and business objectives.

Customer & Stakeholder Management

Build strong relationships with key customers and internal stakeholders.
Partner closely with commercial teams to support customer retention, growth opportunities, and new business implementations.
Ensure proactive communication and swift resolution of customer concerns.
Deliver exceptional customer service through operational excellence.

Carrier & Supplier Management

Maintain strong relationships with airlines, GSAs, handling agents, and transportation providers.
Support capacity management and supplier performance initiatives.
Ensure competitive and efficient operational solutions are delivered to customers.
Collaborate with pricing and procurement teams to maximise service and profitability.

Financial Performance

Monitor key operational and financial KPIs.
Identify opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency, and gross profit.
Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost management activities.
Drive accountability for operational performance and results.

Candidate Profile

Experience

Proven experience within international air freight forwarding operations.
Previous experience managing air import and export teams.
Strong understanding of airline capacity management, routing, customs processes, and operational best practices.
Experience working within a globally integrated freight forwarding environment.
Demonstrated success in leading teams and driving operational improvements.

Skills

Strong leadership and people management abilities.
Commercially minded with a focus on customer satisfaction and profitability.
Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
