Director of Automation
Summary
The Director of Automation is an opportunity to work with a leading food and beverage manufacturing company. This position provides leadership within the Operations team, collaborating with Maintenance, Quality, and IT to drive improvements in automation strategy, solution development, and manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Define automation and controls strategies by establishing standards and best practices.
- Assess current manufacturing, maintenance, and quality operations to propose automation projects that enhance safety, quality, productivity, and reliability.
- Provide guidance on emerging technologies and automation trends for process engineering.
- Oversee preventive and predictive maintenance for electrical and control systems.
- Offer hands-on troubleshooting and corrective maintenance support in collaboration with internal teams and external vendors.
- Coordinate technical solutions for automated equipment and ensure successful integration and validation.
- Build and manage a high-performing team through recruitment, training, coaching, and performance evaluation.
Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in instrumentation and controls, PLC programming, motor control centers, and related areas.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (electrical, manufacturing, industrial, mechanical, controls, or computer) or a related technical field preferred.
- Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient in design, installation, and troubleshooting of electrical and control systems.
- Knowledge of ladder logic, electrical schematics, NEC codes, operator interfaces, and AutoCAD.
- Ability to manage tight deadlines and challenging situations professionally and accurately.
- Technical proficiency with control programming software (e.g., RSLogix, Siemens, Schneider).
- Familiarity with data communication protocols (e.g., ModBus, Remote I/O, Ethernet, DeviceNet).
