The Electrical Controls Engineer (Engineering Lead) ensures plant success by providing controls, network, and automation support, leading related capital projects, and driving TPM continuous improvement initiatives. This role requires flexibility to prioritize plant needs and may involve occasional non-standard work schedules.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide electrical, controls, and automation support for plant processes, packaging, utilities, and automation projects.
- Troubleshoot systems and equipment; assist in technology transfer.
- Partner with Corporate and Plant Engineering on automation projects.
- Lead assigned capital projects for the Amarillo facility.
- Offer technical support for PLC and HMI programming issues.
- Train maintenance technicians and operators on new automation technologies.
- Analyze equipment and systems to identify improvement opportunities.
- Implement cost-saving initiatives through waste reduction and process optimization.
- Support breakdown analysis and create One Point Lessons for knowledge transfer.
- Develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
- Improve control system reliability through maintenance and capital upgrades.
- Develop and monitor automation strategies and system architecture.
- Ensure compliance with safety rules and management of change processes.
- Support Reliability Work Process (RWP) and lead TPM initiatives.
Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Strong safety awareness and leadership.
- Bachelor's in Electrical or Computer Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years in electrical engineering.
- Experience in automation and controls within manufacturing.
- Proficiency in PLC programming (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Fanuc) and HMI applications.
- Knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, ANSI standards.
- Strong troubleshooting skills; AC/DC motor and drive systems.
- Project scheduling and TPM knowledge.
- Effective communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Preferred
- Equipment evaluation and selection experience.
- Previous automation and process controls experience.
- Facility electrical distribution knowledge.
- Leadership experience.
- Data historian platforms (Ignition/IP21).
- Upgrading legacy control systems.
