Production Planning Manager
Position Overview
The Production Planning Manager / Master Scheduler leads the development and execution of end-to-end production schedules that align demand signals, inventory targets, and manufacturing capacity across global operations.
This role acts as a key bridge between commercial forecasts and manufacturing execution, ensuring efficient use of resources while reliably meeting customer delivery commitments across Make-to-Order (MTO), Assemble-to-Order (ATO), and Engineer-to-Order (ETO) production models.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and maintain master production schedules across multiple product families, balancing customer demand with capacity and material constraints
- Manage production planning activities across MTO, ATO, and ETO environments, including highly customized and engineered products
- Serve as the functional expert for the enterprise ERP system, leading the transition from manual or offline planning tools to fully integrated system-driven scheduling
- Design, configure, and optimize the digital planning framework, including ERP logic, parameters, and automation capabilities
- Configure and continually refine MRP and Advanced Planning & Scheduling (APS) settings such as safety stock levels, lead times, lot sizing, and planning horizons
- Establish data accuracy and governance standards; regularly audit item masters, bills of materials, and routings to ensure planning integrity
- Identify opportunities to automate planning processes and eliminate spreadsheet-based dependency
- Develop and document standard operating procedures for production planning and ERP usage
- Train and support cross-functional teams (procurement, manufacturing, sales) on proper system use to ensure data accuracy and operational alignment
- Act as the primary point of contact with IT and external system partners for upgrades, enhancements, and issue resolution
- Ensure manufacturing transactions are properly executed and integrated with financial systems for accurate reporting
- Collaborate with Sales and Customer Service to set achievable lead times and maintain customer satisfaction
- Track production performance metrics, identify constraints, and lead continuous improvement initiatives
- Partner with Procurement to align supply availability with production needs while controlling inventory investment
- Coordinate with Engineering to integrate new product introductions and engineering changes into planning processes
- Lead demand planning activities and contribute to capacity planning and long-term investment decisions
- Drive cross-functional initiatives focused on best practices and system optimization
- Support new product launches and complex, high-priority scheduling initiatives
- Provide leadership with regular insight into capacity utilization, schedule adherence, and delivery performance
Required Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline
- At least 3 years of experience in production planning and master scheduling roles
- Demonstrated experience supporting MTO, ATO, and ETO manufacturing environments
- Strong hands-on experience with integrated ERP platforms and planning modules
- In-depth understanding of MRP and APS principles, configuration, and optimization
- Experience with demand planning, capacity analysis, and inventory control
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with sound decision-making ability
- Proven leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Direct experience working with Infor CloudSuite Industrial (SyteLine)
Preferred Qualifications
- APICS certification (CPIM, CSCP, or CLTD)
- Background in custom, engineered, or architecturally driven manufacturing
- Advanced Excel and data analysis capabilities
- Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification
- Experience supporting multi-site or global manufacturing operations
