R&D Process Engineer

Position Summary
The Senior Process Engineer, R&D, is responsible for designing, developing, and scaling food processing systems from concept through commercialization. This role acts as the technical connection between product development and manufacturing, ensuring that new products can be produced safely, efficiently, and consistently. The position supports innovation initiatives, drives process improvements, and contributes to long‑term sustainability goals.


Key Responsibilities

Research & Development

  • Translate product concepts into efficient, scalable production processes.
  • Partner closely with R&D teams to design, test, and refine processes.
  • Plan and execute bench‑top studies, pilot plant trials, and scale‑up experiments.
  • Evaluate new processing technologies and assess their feasibility.
  • Identify cost‑savings or value‑engineering opportunities.

Process Design & Optimization

  • Develop and optimize food processing systems to improve efficiency, throughput, and product quality.
  • Implement new technologies including automation, digital manufacturing tools, and modern processing methods.
  • Troubleshoot process challenges and recommend solutions based on data and engineering principles.

Project Implementation

  • Lead or support the evaluation and selection of new equipment and technologies.
  • Work with equipment suppliers, vendors, and contractors to resolve technical issues.
  • Support equipment start‑ups, commissioning, and on‑site validation activities.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of process designs, test results, and system validations.
  • Create process specifications, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and technical reports.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to cross-functional teams in a clear, concise manner.

Quality & Safety Compliance

  • Ensure all processes comply with food safety regulations, quality standards, and internal safety guidelines.
  • Identify and mitigate process risks during development and scale-up.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (Chemical or Food Engineering preferred).
  • 1-3 years of experience in process engineering or packaging engineering, ideally within the food industry.
  • Experience in product commercialization, scale‑up, and process optimization.
  • Strong understanding of food manufacturing systems and equipment.

Skills & Attributes

  • Experience with automation, digital manufacturing, and Industry 4.0 technologies.
  • Knowledge of sustainable materials and processes is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and project management abilities.
