Strategic Buyer (M/F/D)
We are currently collaborating with a key client, based in Hamburg, who are a global leader within the manufacturing sector as they search for an experienced strategic buyer to join their expanding team. In this role you will cover multiple commodities including electronics, sheet metals, and mechanical components.
As a critical member of the procurement team, you will develop strategic sourcing initiatives, manage supplier relationships, and drive cost optimisation while maintaining quality and operational efficiency. You will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to secure high-quality components that meet the client's manufacturing needs.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement strategic sourcing strategies for electronics, metals, and mechanical components, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
Identify, evaluate, and manage suppliers, negotiating contracts, pricing, and service agreements to drive cost efficiency.
Monitor commodity price trends, market developments, and geopolitical risks, proactively mitigating supply chain disruptions.
Establish strong relationships with key suppliers to enhance quality, delivery performance, and innovation.
Work closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to optimise component selection, standardisation, and life cycle cost management.
Lead cost-reduction initiatives while ensuring supply chain resilience and reliability.
Ensure compliance with corporate policies, regulatory requirements, and sustainability standards.
Analyse procurement data, supplier performance, and key KPIs to identify opportunities for process improvement.
Skills & Experience Required
Proven experience in strategic procurement, supply chain management, or purchasing within the electronics, metals, or mechanical components industries.
Strong knowledge of electronic components (PCBs, semiconductors, connectors) OR precision-engineered parts, OR metal commodities.
Expertise in supplier negotiation, global sourcing, and contract management.
Familiarity with commodity pricing trends, total cost of ownership (TCO), and risk mitigation strategies.
Experience with ERP systems and procurement software (SAP, Oracle, etc.).
Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Strong analytic mindset with the ability to drive cost optimisation and supplier performance improvements.
Ability to manage multiple procurement projects in a fast-paced, global environment.
Desirable Qualifications
Degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Procurement, or a related field.
CIPS qualification or working towards certification.
Experience in lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
Fluency in German and English is highly desirable.
