Trade Compliance Analyst
A leading industrial organization is seeking a Trade Compliance Analyst to support import and export compliance activities. This role focuses on product classification, duty and tariff analysis, documentation review, and maintaining accurate trade data to ensure regulatory compliance and cost visibility. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of global trade regulations and works effectively across supply chain, logistics, and finance functions.
Responsibilities:
Import & Export Compliance
- Assign product classifications based on technical specifications, product data, and supporting documentation.
- Determine applicable duties, tariffs, and special trade programs to support accurate cost and compliance analysis.
- Support preparation and review of import/export documentation to ensure accurate declarations.
- Monitor regulatory changes and assess potential impact on business operations.
Data Management & Systems
- Maintain classification data, duty rates, and country-of-origin information within ERP or related systems.
- Ensure accuracy and consistency of trade-related master data to support purchasing, costing, and compliance requirements.
- Support data integrity across systems and reporting processes.
Documentation & Vendor Coordination
- Review invoices, shipping documents, and related records for accuracy and completeness.
- Partner with suppliers, brokers, and logistics providers to resolve documentation issues.
- Assist in improving consistency and accuracy of import/export documentation.
Cost & Risk Analysis
- Support landed cost analysis by evaluating duties, tariffs, and sourcing considerations.
- Identify opportunities to reduce costs through sourcing, logistics, or compliance strategies.
- Assist in managing audits, corrections, and updates related to customs filings.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with supply chain, logistics, engineering, and finance teams to support compliance activities.
- Provide guidance and support on trade compliance processes and documentation requirements.
- Assist with process improvement initiatives and training related to trade compliance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in supply chain, logistics, business, or related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in trade compliance, import/export operations, or customs-related roles.
- Strong understanding of classification principles, tariffs, and country-of-origin requirements.
- Experience working with brokers, freight providers, and global shipping documentation.
- Proficiency in Excel or similar data analysis tools; ERP system experience preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
Preferred Background:
- Experience with global trade programs or free trade agreements.
- Familiarity with export controls and compliance processes.
- Experience in manufacturing, distribution, or industrial environments.
