Converting Production Supervisor

One of our clients in the paper and packaging industry is looking to bring on a Production Supervisor to support their converting department. This person will play a critical role in the success of the production team and overall facility operations.

Location: Richmond, VA

Title: Converting Production Supervisor

Shift: 2nd (3pm-11pm) OR 3rd (11pm - 7am)

Compensation: $95,000-$110,000

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage shift operations and personnel, including supervising daily production activities, monitoring individual performance, handling workforce planning, attendance, reviews, and disciplinary actions, and promoting positive employee relations and interdepartmental communication.
  • Drive safety compliance and culture by executing regular safety briefs; identifying and correcting unsafe conditions; and ensuring adherence to plant safety regulations, policies, and safe work practices while fostering a safety‑conscious team.
  • Oversee production execution, ensuring alignment with safety, quality, delivery, and cost goals; monitoring production and shipping schedules; tracking KPIs and DMS metrics; and reporting results on the plant scorecard.
  • Optimize operational efficiency by eliminating waste, minimizing overtime, downtime, and repair costs; improving workflow and capacity utilization; and collaborating across teams to enhance overall productivity.
  • Communicate effectively across functions to ensure production needs are met, maintain performance excellence, support continuous improvement, and ensure smooth coordination with all plant departments.

Qualifications:

  • Education & Certifications: High school diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or Operations Management preferred; Lean experience and Six Sigma Green/Black Belt a plus.
  • Operations & Technical Expertise: 3+ years of converting/packaging supervisory experience; proven background in operations, manufacturing, or supply chain; ability to troubleshoot process and maintenance issues independently.
  • Continuous Improvement & Problem-Solving: Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to embrace and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Effective communicator with strong collaboration skills; experienced in coaching, training, and working cross‑functionally as a self‑directed team player.
  • Adaptability & Decision-Making: Able to make effective independent decisions and maintain flexibility to work multiple shifts.
