EHS Manager
Position Title: Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager
Work Arrangement: On-site
Reporting Line: Reports to Senior Operations Leadership
Overview
The EHS Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining health, safety, and environmental programs across multiple operational facilities. This role ensures compliance with applicable regulations and promotes a proactive safety culture. The position also includes responsibilities as a certified safety and fire safety professional.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and execute site-wide EHS strategies and contribute to annual planning and budgeting.
- Supervise and support EHS team members, including performance management and professional development.
- Chair and guide the facility's EHS committee to drive safety initiatives.
- Identify and mitigate workplace hazards and environmental risks through proactive assessments and interventions.
- Coordinate and lead internal audits, safety training sessions, and team meetings; follow up on corrective actions.
- Maintain emergency preparedness plans and lead emergency response drills.
- Conduct compliance audits and readiness assessments for emergency response teams.
- Serve as liaison with regulatory agencies and oversee permit and license renewals.
- Investigate incidents and non-conformances; ensure resolution through corrective and preventive measures.
- Review and update internal EHS policies to ensure alignment with current regulations and best practices.
- Implement and manage EHS systems to support continuous improvement and risk reduction.
- Provide EHS oversight during facility changes, equipment relocations, or expansions.
- Monitor and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to safety and environmental metrics.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote a safe and compliant work environment.
- Engage with global EHS counterparts to share best practices and enhance safety systems.
- Support incident reporting and investigation processes, ensuring thorough documentation and knowledge sharing.
- Analyze root causes of incidents and recommend preventive strategies.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Engineering, or a related technical field.
Experience:
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in EHS compliance within industrial or manufacturing settings.
Skills & Competencies:
- Familiarity with Lean or Six Sigma methodologies is advantageous.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills across all organizational levels.
- Effective problem-solving, organizational, and time-management abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
- Experience working with contractors and regulatory bodies.
Certifications:
- Fire Safety Manager certification required at time of hire.
Additional Details
Travel:
- Occasional travel required (approximately 5% annually).
Physical Demands:
- Primarily sedentary role; may involve occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs (4 kg).
