Position Title: Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Manager
Role Overview
The HSE Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining health, safety, and environmental programs to ensure regulatory compliance and alignment with internal standards. Reporting to the Site Director, this role oversees workplace safety for all individuals on-site-including employees, contractors, and visitors-and serves as the technical advisor for all HSE-related matters at the location.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation of site-specific HSE programs, including behavioral safety initiatives and regulatory compliance.
- Manage incident reporting and investigation processes, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective actions are documented and shared.
- Oversee risk assessments such as Job Safety Analysis (JSA), PPE evaluations, ergonomic reviews, chemical and equipment assessments, and support project planning from an HSE perspective.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including permit management and documentation.
- Develop and maintain HSE training programs based on regulatory and internal requirements.
- Manage compliance with environmental laws such as the Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).
- Supervise operations of the industrial wastewater treatment system, ensuring regulatory reporting and compliance.
- Support initiatives in sustainability, corporate responsibility, crisis management, and business continuity.
- Act as liaison with regulatory agencies, corporate teams, and customer representatives during HSE-related engagements.
- Translate corporate HSE strategies into actionable site-level goals.
- Lead the site Safety Committee and provide guidance to HSE staff, if applicable.
- Oversee site security operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field.
- 8-10 years of professional experience in HSE.
- Strong knowledge of local and national HSE regulations.
- Experience in industrial or manufacturing environments.
- Proficiency in developing and implementing HSE policies and procedures.
- Advanced English communication skills (written and verbal).
- Strong technical writing and presentation capabilities.
- Analytical problem-solving and audit tracking skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours to support 24/7 operations.
- Effective communicator across all organizational levels.
- Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality.
- Strong organizational, time management, and conflict resolution skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced education in HSE-related disciplines.
- 2-3 years of experience managing site security systems.
- Experience working with senior leadership and corporate teams.
- Ability to coach and develop team members.
- Demonstrates leadership and acts as a change agent.
- Strong problem-solving and multitasking abilities.
Travel Requirements
- Approximately 5% travel annually (up to 13 business days).
Physical Requirements
- Sedentary work classification: primarily office-based with occasional movement and light lifting (up to 10 lbs).
- Must be able to operate effectively in both office and manufacturing environments.
