Quality Engineer
Job Overview
The Quality Engineer plays a dual role focused on both proactive and reactive quality management. On the front end, the role drives contract reviews, risk identification, and quality planning using historical product performance data. On the back end, the position owns claims from initiation through resolution, including investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
This role operates as a cross-functional leader, partnering with teams such as Project Management, Sales, Engineering, Testing, Field Service, and Quality to ensure lessons learned are captured and integrated into products, projects, and standard processes to reduce risk, cost, and customer impact.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing the end-to-end claims process (validation, investigation, root cause, and cost tracking)
- Analyzing trends to identify systemic issues
- Leading failure analysis and teardown investigations
- Driving containment and corrective actions across internal teams, customers, and suppliers
- Conducting contract and risk reviews using performance data
- Developing quality plans and critical-to-quality (CTQ) requirements
- Leading cross-functional initiatives to reduce defects and improve product performance
- Serving as a technical liaison to customers and field service teams, including occasional on-site support
- Building dashboards and reports to track trends and risks
- Supporting structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 8D, root cause analysis)
- Traveling up to approximately 40% as needed
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Approximately 3-7 years of relevant experience in quality engineering, manufacturing, or related fields
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, fabrication, and weldments
- Hands-on experience with failure analysis and root cause investigation
- Proficiency in quality and problem-solving tools such as:
- 8D, A3, CAPA
- PFMEA, DFMEA
- Control Plans and Inspection Plans
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and apply GD&T principles
- Experience working in cross-functional environments (PMO exposure preferred)
- Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
- Ability to analyze and leverage data to drive decisions
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification such as ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or equivalent
- Experience with statistical and data analysis tools (e.g., Minitab, JMP, Power BI, advanced Excel)
- Mechanical aptitude, including the ability to assemble/disassemble components using engineering documentation
- Experience using field performance data to influence design and business decisions
- Demonstrated ability to reduce repeat failures and improve product reliability
- Experience serving as a customer-facing technical resource
