Sourcing Engineering Lead - Smart Tech Components

Our client who's a global European High Technology Group is a well-established and rapidly growing player in the smart tech device and connected electronics sector, with a strong footprint across Asia and global supply networks. To support continued expansion and supply chain optimisation, we are seeking a highly experienced Smart Tech and IoT Electronic Component Sourcing Engineering Lead - Smart Tech Components to be based in Hong Kong.

The Opportunity

This is a critical, high-impact role responsible for driving strategic sourcing initiatives, securing supply continuity, and delivering cost optimization across a wide range of electronic components used in mobile phone products.

  • Review BOMs and technical specifications to identify suitable electronic components for smart devices and connected products
  • Source, evaluate, and qualify alternative or second-source components to improve cost efficiency and supply flexibility
  • Support sourcing strategies across key component categories including semiconductors, wireless modules, sensors, RF components, power devices, and electromechanical parts
  • Partner with engineering, R&D, product management, and manufacturing teams throughout NPI/NPD development cycles
  • Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, shortages, and component obsolescence issues
  • Manage supplier selection, commercial negotiations, capability assessments, and ongoing supplier performance
  • Support regional and global sourcing initiatives across China, Taiwan, Southeast Asia, and broader international supply bases
  • Monitor market trends, pricing movements, lead times, and technology developments within the electronic component landscape
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to sourcing optimisation, cost reduction, and supplier resilience
  • Prepare sourcing analysis and business updates for management stakeholders

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or any relevant engineering disciplines
  • 10-15 years of experience in electronic component sourcing, procurement, commodity management, or component engineering
  • Experience within smart consumer electronics, IoT products, connected devices, wearable, mobile technology, EMS, or high-tech manufacturing environments preferred
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Semiconductor and IC components
    • Wireless and connectivity modules (Bluetooth, WiFi, RF)
    • Sensors and smart device technologies
    • Power management components
    • Passive and electromechanical components
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, data sheets, and technical documentation
  • Familiarity with global component supply chains and supplier ecosystems across Asia
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and stakeholder management abilities
  • Commercially minded, adaptable, and comfortable operating within a dynamic growth environment
  • Fluency of English and Mandarin Chinese is a must
