Automation & Controls Technician II

Role

This role is responsible for supporting, maintaining, and improving manufacturing automation systems. The position involves PLC programming, electrical design, troubleshooting, and ongoing support of production and packaging equipment in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Responsibilities

  • Program, modify, and troubleshoot PLCs and associated control systems, including ladder logic.
  • Design and support automation systems utilizing sensors, motors, drives, and servo systems.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for production floor automation and controls equipment.
  • Develop, implement, and upgrade electronic monitoring systems for manufacturing and packaging operations.
  • Maintain and support automated data collection systems on the production floor.
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams to diagnose and resolve equipment and controls issues.
  • Design, build, and install supplemental equipment for process improvement and project execution.
  • Fabricate and wire control panels for conveying systems and packaging machinery.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on automation and control systems.
  • Create and update electrical schematics and documentation.
  • Maintain version control and backups of PLC programs and automation software.
  • Support project planning activities, including timelines, budgets, and progress tracking.
  • Perform additional duties as required to support operations.
  • Maintain flexibility in work schedule to support production uptime and project implementation.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Associate's degree in Electronics, Electrical Technology, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with PLC programming and troubleshooting in a manufacturing or production environment

Technical Requirements

  • Strong working knowledge of PLC programming and interfacing
  • Proficiency in ladder logic development and troubleshooting
  • Experience with industrial control systems and automation hardware
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, safety procedures, and equipment manuals

Additional Skills

  • Ability to write clear reports and document system changes
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication and teamwork within a production environment
