About the Role
A leading FMCG organisation is strengthening its EMEA Supply Chain function and seeking a highly skilled Customs Specialist to ensure full compliance across cross‑border flows, optimise import/export processes, and support continuous improvement across the region. This role sits within the wider Supply Chain & Logistics team and acts as the internal customs SME for all EMEA markets.
Key Responsibilities
Customs Compliance & Governance
- Ensure full adherence to EU and global customs regulations across all EMEA inbound and outbound shipments.
- Maintain and optimise customs procedures (e.g., IPR, OPR, bonded warehousing, AEO standards).
- Act as the main point of contact for customs authorities, brokers, and regulatory bodies.
- Oversee product classification and maintain accurate HS codes, duty rates, and trade compliance documentation.
Operational Execution
- Manage import/export documentation, certificates, licences, and declarations for FMCG product flows.
- Resolve customs issues, delays, and non‑conformities in coordination with logistics partners and internal teams.
- Support the execution of preferential origin processes and free‑trade agreements.
Process Improvement & Stakeholder Engagement
- Identify opportunities to reduce duty spend and customs‑related costs.
- Lead or support EMEA trade compliance improvement projects.
- Train internal teams (Supply Chain, Procurement, Finance, Quality) on customs procedures and regulatory changes.
- Collaborate closely with 3PLs, freight forwarders, and internal SC & Logistics teams.
Qualifications & Experience
- 3+ years' experience in customs, trade compliance, or international logistics within FMCG, retail, food & beverage, or similar fast‑moving sectors.
- Strong knowledge of EU customs regulations, tariff classification, and import/export procedures.
- Experience with bonded warehouses and/or AEO certification is a strong advantage.
- Familiarity with SAP (GTS or similar) or other trade compliance systems preferred.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret regulatory requirements.
- Fluent in English; additional European languages are a plus.
