The EHS Specialist ensures compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations by developing and implementing policies and programs. This role involves conducting field inspections, designing employee training, preparing reports, and analyzing environmental samples. The EHS Specialist plays a key role in risk assessment, accident prevention, and maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

- Conduct field inspections and identify hazardous conditions and materials.
- Maintain systems tracking hazardous sites, chemical inventories, and complaint investigations.
- Develop solutions to eliminate pollution and environmental hazards.
- Design and deliver effective EHS training programs.
- Collect and analyze soil, water, and air samples; report findings on environmental conditions.
- Prepare detailed reports on inspections and compliance status.
- Implement spill prevention programs and hazardous waste regulations.
- Inspect plant machinery and equipment for environmental compliance.
- Perform industrial hygiene measurements and ergonomic assessments.
- Investigate ventilation, lighting, and other workplace safety conditions.
- Coordinate Safety Committee activities, including regular plant walkthroughs.
- Maintain regulatory postings (e.g., OSHA 300 Log).
- Administer and maintain safety programs in a manufacturing environment.
- Conduct hazard prevention analysis and implement risk control measures.
- Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams to resolve EHS issues.
- Participate in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
- Deliver EHS training in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Must Have Qualifications & Skills:
- Ability to work independently on night shift, making sound decisions, prioritizing risk, and escalating issues without direct supervision.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA CFR 29 Part 1910 (General Industry) and working understanding of CFR 29 Part 1926 (Construction) as applied in manufacturing (e.g., ladders, fall protection, confined space, overhead cranes, temporary platforms).
- Skilled at interpreting and explaining regulatory intent-not just citing rules.
- High integrity, sound judgment, and willingness to challenge the status quo when safety or compliance is at risk.
- Effective coach and influencer with strong communication skills; able to deliver safety direction to all levels and explain complex concepts in practical terms.
- Curious, adaptable, and committed to continuous EHS improvement.
- Experience in manufacturing, heavy industry, or construction-in-manufacturing environments.
- Comfortable working nights, handling incidents (including blood), investigations, and compliance activities independently.
- Strong observational skills to identify unsafe conditions and behaviors in real time.
Required Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Safety or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of industrial or manufacturing experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a diverse environment.
