A leading North American food manufacturing organization is seeking a Site Logistics Operations Manager to oversee all on-site distribution, warehousing, and transportation activities at a high-volume production facility. This role offers the opportunity to lead a large, cross-functional logistics team while ensuring the safe and efficient handling of temperature-sensitive products. The Site Logistics Operations Manager will be responsible for:
- Overseeing daily logistics operations including inbound receiving, cold and ambient storage, inventory handling, order fulfillment, staging, and outbound distribution of perishable products
- Leading and developing a team of supervisors, coordinators, warehouse associates, and drivers, fostering accountability, engagement, and high performance
- Managing transportation operations, including routing, carrier coordination, delivery execution, and cost optimization initiatives
- Ensuring proper handling and storage of temperature-controlled products to maintain quality and product integrity throughout the supply chain
- Maintaining accurate inventory records using structured cycle counts, physical inventories, lot tracking, and variance resolution processes
- Implementing and enforcing FIFO/FEFO practices to support shelf-life management and minimize waste
- Partnering closely with production, procurement, and planning teams to align material flow with production schedules and customer demand
- Monitoring and improving key performance metrics across service levels, cost efficiency, productivity, inventory accuracy, and safety
- Ensuring compliance with food safety standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., HACCP, FDA/USDA guidelines) as well as company policies
- Managing third-party logistics providers and transportation partners to ensure service, compliance, and performance expectations are met
- Overseeing accurate and timely completion of shipping, receiving, and transportation documentation to support traceability and audit readiness
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives focused on process optimization, waste reduction, and operational excellence
- Partnering with IT and systems teams to optimize ERP/WMS/TMS usage and improve data accuracy and reporting visibility
- Managing labor planning, staffing, and budget adherence for the logistics function
The Site Logistics Operations Manager should have the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 7+ years of experience in logistics, warehouse, or distribution operations within a manufacturing or food production environment
- At least 3 years of leadership experience managing both salaried and hourly teams
- Strong knowledge of inventory control practices, including cycle counting, lot traceability, and discrepancy resolution
- Experience managing transportation operations, including carrier relationships, routing, and freight cost control
- Familiarity with temperature-controlled logistics and perishable goods handling
- Working knowledge of food safety and regulatory standards (HACCP, FDA, USDA)
- Proficiency in ERP, WMS, or TMS systems, with strong analytical and reporting capabilities (Excel or similar tools)
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally to meet operational and service objectives
- Experience with Lean, continuous improvement, or process optimization methodologies preferred
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
