About the Role
A leading manufacturing organization is seeking a Maintenance Manager to strengthen technical capability across the maintenance organization and enable consistent, high‑performance execution on the shop floor. This role is critical to developing, delivering, and sustaining hands‑on technical training that ensures maintenance knowledge, machine expertise, and standard work are successfully transferred across mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines.
The Maintenance Training Manager will lead structured training efforts aligned with the Education & Training (T&E) Pillar methodology, working closely with Maintenance, Engineering, OEM partners, and cross‑functional teams. This position plays a key role in reducing operational losses by closing skill gaps, reinforcing standards, and supporting equipment reliability through effective learning solutions.
The Maintenance Manager will be responsible for:
- Developing, updating, and maintaining high‑quality maintenance training materials using instructional design and adult learning principles.
- Coaching and supporting maintenance technicians to build mechanical, electrical, and controls capabilities aligned with job requirements.
- Planning and delivering hands‑on maintenance training on production equipment, training modules, and in live manufacturing environments while ensuring safety and standard work adherence.
- Translating hands‑on maintenance activities into standardized, repeatable training content aligned with site standards and T&E Pillar methodology.
- Building and organizing a comprehensive training, including:
- Technical manuals and reference materials
- Job Breakdown Sheets (JBS)
- Troubleshooting guides
- One Point Lessons (OPLs)
- Simulators, presentations, and instructional videos
- Designing and delivering structured onboarding training programs for maintenance employees.
- Developing and coaching maintenance assessors
- Creating and maintaining maintenance skill matrices, competency checklists, assessments, and job breakdowns to validate technician proficiency through hands‑on evaluations.
- Identifying maintenance skill gaps contributing to performance losses and supporting targeted competency‑gap reduction initiatives.
- Evaluating training effectiveness through feedback, skills assessments, and program outcomes; continuously improving learning materials and approaches.
- Applying current instructional design best practices, learning tools, and industry trends to internal training programs.
- Managing and maintaining training platforms and databases.
- Supporting the maintenance team in capturing instructional and breakdown analysis videos for troubleshooting and continuous improvement.
- Serving as a content creator for industrial performance initiatives and LPW teams.
- Collaborating with site leadership to assess learning needs and align training priorities with organizational goals.
- Supporting training needs across all shifts in a 24‑hour manufacturing operation.
- Performing additional duties as required.
The Maintenance Manager will have the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field OR 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands‑on experience in a maintenance department.
- At least 2 years of experience developing and delivering technical training or instructional materials.
- Proven experience delivering technical training to adult learners.
- Strong ability to translate complex maintenance concepts into clear, trainable standards.
- Demonstrated ability to work directly on the shop floor in a training and coaching capacity.
- Ability to work independently and manage training initiatives in changing environments.
- Experience with structured training tools such as Job Breakdown Sheets (JBS), competency checklists, and skill matrices (preferred).
- Familiarity with graphic design or training content development tools.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams).
- Strong soft skills including adaptability, problem solving, time management, organization, attention to detail, decision‑making, persuasion, and conflict resolution.
