Job Summary
DSJ Global is partnered with a leading defense firm seeking a highly skilled Machinist / Prototype Model Maker to support new product development. The ideal candidate has extensive experience creating, refining, and improving complex mechanical systems in a collaborative environment. This role involves producing high‑precision 3D physical models, assemblies, sub‑assemblies, and components based on engineering specifications.
Technical Responsibilities
- Provide advanced machining and model‑making support for engineering projects across a diverse portfolio of products and accessories.
- Fabricate prototypes using Model Shop equipment, interpreting CAD models, technical drawings, and design requirements.
- Partner with design engineers to offer feedback during concept development and prototyping stages.
- Assist with troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and evaluation of failure modes.
- Advise on prototype manufacturing capabilities and constraints.
- Select appropriate tools, materials, and fixtures to support project objectives.
- Support test activities, including component measurement, data logging, and documentation.
Strategic & Cross‑Functional Responsibilities
- Contribute to Design for Manufacturability, Assembly, and Inspection (DFMAI), helping prepare robust technical data packages for efficient new‑product introduction.
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineering teams to develop assembly aids, fixtures, and tooling for new product lines.
- Provide technical insight throughout the full product development lifecycle, supporting design, manufacturing, and quality engineering teams.
Education & Experience Requirements
- State‑certified Tool and Die Maker Journeyman.
- Minimum 6 years in a product development environment preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of toolmaking experience in precision manufacturing (defense, aerospace, automotive, medical, or similar industries).
- Strong mechanical systems understanding, including materials science and performance requirements.
- Commitment to producing high‑quality, precision‑engineered products.
- Proficient knowledge of GD&T
- Experience supporting products for both commercial and government end‑users.
- Skilled in the use of precision measurement equipment
