Process Engineer
Job Overview
We are seeking a Process Engineer to support and improve manufacturing processes in a metal foundry producing components for defense applications. This role focuses on optimizing casting operations, reducing scrap, improving yield, and ensuring compliance with defense and customer specifications. The engineer will work closely with production and quality teams to solve problems, improve process stability, and support new product introductions.
Job Requirements
- Develop, optimize, and document foundry processes including molding, coremaking, melting, pouring, heat treatment, and finishing.
- Conduct root-cause analysis for defects and drive corrective actions.
- Lead continuous improvement efforts to improve throughput, reduce scrap, and improve process capability.
- Interpret engineering drawings, customer specifications, and technical requirements for casting and machining.
- Support new product launches through trials, validation, and capability studies.
- Ensure compliance with defense industry requirements, including documentation, traceability, and handling of controlled technical data (ITAR/DFARS, as applicable).
- Partner with Quality on inspection plans, FAI/PPAP (as required), and special process controls.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
- Experience in manufacturing with a strong background in metal casting or foundry processes.
- Working knowledge of casting fundamentals (solidification, gating/risering, metallurgy, melt practices).
- Proficiency with root-cause/problem-solving tools (5-Why, Fishbone, 8D), SPC, and basic quality methods.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work hands-on in a production environment.
- Eligibility to work with ITAR-controlled information; ability to obtain security clearance may be required depending on program.
