Process Engineer

As a Process Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting daily operations, optimizing manufacturing processes, implementing continuous improvement initiatives, and enhancing product quality. You'll collaborate closely with production teams, maintenance, quality, and environmental health & safety to ensure efficient, safe, and high‑quality operations at one of the organization's flagship mill facilities.

This is a hands-on role for someone eager to contribute to operational excellence and drive meaningful improvements within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.


Responsibilities

  • Lead process optimization initiatives using input from management, operators, customers, maintenance, and industry stakeholders.
  • Plan, coordinate, and document all trials related to process improvement, including cost/savings analyses, risk-benefit assessments, and recommendations.
  • Identify and evaluate potential new fiber sources; conduct testing and support implementation.
  • Manage activities and priorities for chemical suppliers.
  • Stay current with industry advancements in paper manufacturing processes.
  • Collect, analyze, trend, and present operational data to identify and resolve issues.
  • Recommend updates to product specifications and procedures to improve quality and reduce raw material costs.
  • Track and analyze quality metrics, cost drivers, and material usage to detect issues early and prevent negative business impacts.
  • Partner with production crews and the Quality team to ensure products meet all required specifications.
  • Collaborate with environmental and safety personnel to minimize environmental impacts and engineer solutions that reduce injury risk.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts involving chemical and physical analysis, data interpretation, fault analysis, and corrective action recommendations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Chemistry, Pulp & Paper Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid understanding of papermaking test methods and data interpretation.
  • High proficiency in analyzing large data sets and drawing actionable insights.
