Product Design Engineer
About the Role
DSJ Global has partnered with a leading manufacturer in the defense industry who is seeking a Product Design Engineer to join its dynamic engineering team. This role is ideal for a hands-on, detail-oriented engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment. You'll be responsible for the full life cycle of product development from concept through launch ensuring technical excellence, cost efficiency, and timely delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead technical aspects of multiple projects, including planning, budgeting, and execution
- Collaborate with Marketing and cross-functional teams to define product specifications
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules and track performance
- Design and modify products using 2D/3D CAD tools (SolidWorks preferred)
- Create technical data packages: drawings, BOMs, test plans, and documentation
- Assemble and test prototypes for form, fit, function, and endurance
- Conduct dynamic testing using accelerometers, strain gauges, and other tools
- Apply FEA and other analytical tools to optimize designs
- Facilitate cross-functional meetings and ensure early issue resolution
- Support production transition and establish process capability
- Travel periodically to support project and client needs
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (advanced degree a plus)
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, Pro E, or similar CAD systems
- Strong knowledge of GD&T (ANSI Y14.5)
- Experience managing technical projects and cross-functional teams
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with ISO standards and 5S methodology
- Firearms safety knowledge is a plus
