Job Summary
The Director of Product Quality is accountable for ensuring exceptional product quality from concept through end of life. This role leads disciplined design and quality processes, ensures robust execution of DFX during NPI, drives lifecycle reliability improvements, and partners closely with engineering, operations, and global manufacturing partners to deliver high‑yield, compliant, and reliable products.
Key Responsibilities
Design Quality & New Product Introduction (NPI)
- Lead and enforce disciplined product quality and engineering processes across all development phases.
- Ensure rigorous application of DFX principles, including DFMEA, manufacturability, testability, reliability, and cost during NPI.
- Partner with engineering to drive design robustness, yield readiness, and scalability to production.
Product Lifecycle Quality
- Own closed‑loop quality systems leveraging field failure, warranty, and repair data.
- Drive root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions across design, manufacturing, and service.
- Improve product reliability, customer experience, and total cost of ownership.
Manufacturing & Partner Quality
- Provide product quality leadership across internal and external manufacturing partners.
- Define and manage qualification, certification, audit, and performance expectations for suppliers and contract manufacturers.
- Establish quality metrics, scorecards, and continuous improvement plans to reduce risk and improve performance.
Quality Systems, Compliance & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure adherence to QMS, regulatory, and industry standards.
- Maintain audit readiness and compliance governance.
- Champion Lean, Six Sigma, and data‑driven continuous improvement across product quality and operations teams.
Qualifications
Experience
- Proven leadership experience in Product Quality, Design Quality, or Operations Quality within a manufacturing or technology environment.
- Experience operating as a P&L owner, General Manager, or senior operational leader a strong plus.
Technical Expertise
- Strong hands‑on knowledge of DFMEA, DOE, quality tools, and DFX methodologies.
- Deep understanding of manufacturing processes, supplier quality, and reliability engineering.
- Six Sigma Black Belt and/or ASQ Certified Manager of Quality (CMQ) preferred.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering or related discipline.
Leadership & Communication
- Demonstrated ability to define quality strategy and influence cross‑functional organizations.
- Strong executive communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical issues into business impact for senior leadership.
